TESTIMONIALS*

*"When I first arrived at Shalom Homes, I honestly didn't think I could get better. Dealing with both depression and being wheelchair bound after a terrible accident felt overwhelming, and I tried other programs before without success. What made Shalom different was how they treated me as a whole person, not just my conditions. The nurse were available whenever I needed to talk about how the meds made me feel and had the doctors adjust them properly. My favorite is Susan my HHA it’s like they picked her specially for me, she has a son that went through what I’m going through.

I learned to manage my finances (Thank God, they should teach this in school, IMHO), cook healthy delicious meals, and do everything I used to do before my accident. My confidence confidence skyrocketed. Everything there is just exceptional. I got married (Yaayyyy!) and moved to Amarillo, I wanted to take them all with me.

My sister Maria is Special Needs and has struggled mentally for nearly a decade. My family tried everything to help her: multiple hospitalizations, treatment programs…nothing worked. She needed long-term support and we were exhausted. When we found Shalom Homes, we were cautiously hopeful because of the many previous disappointments.

From our first visit, we could see this place was different. The staff actually listened to our concerns and included our family in her treatment planning. They included kept us informed about Maria's progress and helped us understand how we could best support her. The team approach really worked - everyone from the nurses to the doctor communicated with each other and with us.

Maria developed a job skill, she loves flowers and now works at a floral shop. I’ve never seen her this happy and full of energy. The staff celebrated every small victory and supported her through setbacks. She still lives there but it’s like she more independent, working full-time, and we all have our sister back, it’s like we can all breathe again. We're forever grateful to the team at shalom Homes. Thank God for you all!!!”

"As a clinical social worker, I've referred numerous clients to various residential programs over my 15-year career. Shalom Homes stands out for their truly integrated approach to dual diagnosis treatment and their commitment to person-centered care.

Their documentation is thorough, and they maintain excellent communication throughout a client's stay. Clients who had struggled with repeated relapses and hospitalizations have achieved sustained recovery and independent living. The staff's dedication to quality improvement is evident in how they incorporate feedback and continuously enhance their services. I trust Shalom Homes with my most challenging cases because I know clients will receive compassionate, evidence-based care that addresses their whole person, not just their symptoms."

After three tours in Iraq, I came home and I barely recognized myself. Severe memory loss from my TBI made simple tasks feel impossible, and the depression had me self-medicating with alcohol, which just made everything worse.  I felt like a burden to everyone I loved.

When the VA referred me to Shalom Homes, I was skeptical. Day one, I was shown respect, dignity and understanding I hadn't felt in years. Their medical team Dr. Campbell worked with my VA doctors to coordinate my care, medications and daily routines. The mental health nurse had experience with combat vets and

Shalom Homes and I rebuilt my sense of purpose and my way back to being the man I was proud to be before Iraq without being rigid or triggering. My memory isn't perfect, but I've learned strategies that work. I'm using my experience to help other veteran brothers to navigate their own recovery journeys.

For any veteran reading this who feels lost - there is a way forward!
